Size: 1-to-1 Match for all Grantmaking Dollars
All grantmaking funds contributed to the Funders' Collaborative are matched dollar for dollar by HIP. The formula for local grantmaking is: (Local funds + National match) – 15% (to partially cover HIP’s program costs). For example, ($400,000 + $400,000) – 15% = $680,000 available for grantmaking in a given site. Both local and national funders have the opportunity to leverage their grantmaking dollars by 100% through the Funders' Collaborative.
Scope: Diverse Program Areas & Unique Transnational Network
Funding priorities for each site are determined by combining the local and national funding priorities of the funders participating in that given site. This allows funders the rare opportunity to gain valuable grantmaking experience outside of their typical program areas, exposing them to new organizations and a greater understanding of Latino communities in the region. Not only do funders have the opportunity to engage locally with other grantmakers, but they are also incorporated into the transnational HIP network of immense human and intellectual capital which extends across the United States and Latin America.
Strength: Culturally Competent and Effective Technical Assistance
HIP staff possesses a broad array of talents and specialties, each highly knowledgeable about the Latino communities in the regions with which they work. They facilitate efficient communication between the site committees and the community. They provide a structure for the grantmaking process and knowledge from experiences gained through participation in other Funders' Collaborative sites. HIP staff is available to provide funders and grantees problem solving assistance, a national perspective on critical issues and access to resources. Additionally, HIP staff works with the site committee funders to organize events that provide grantees with technical assistance and leadership development. Grantees and funders participate in two regional convenings per year, the biannual transnational Leadership Training Institute, and the annual Assembly of the Funders' Collaborative.
The Funders' Collaborative is a unique, hands-on method of doubling a funder’s investment, strengthening the Latino nonprofit sector, and learning about Latino communities. For more information, please don’t hestitate to contact a HIP office nearest you.
