AfriCaribe NFP

$30,000/ 2 years

AfriCaribe NFP is dedicated to the preservation, research, promotion, and development of the Puerto Rican and Caribbean cultures through music, dance, theatre, and other artistic mediums. Located in Humboldt Park, it serves residents in Paseo Boricua, a cultural anchor of Chicago’s Puerto Rican community. AfriCaribe received capacity building support to conduct an organizational assessment, develop an organizational work plan and strengthen their funding base with a hired consultant.

 

Alliance of Logan Square Organizations

$10,000/ 1 year

Alliance of Logan Square Organizations brings together organizations and people to support children and families in Logan Square, a largely Latino community within a low-income neighborhood of Chicago, to provide social services in partnership with local churches, schools, and other local nonprofits. The Alliance received capacity building support to undergo a strategic planning process with its board and staff with a hired consultant.

 

Amigas Latinas

$11,000/ 2 years

Amigas Latinas seeks to promote and ensure a safe space, educational opportunities and resources for lesbian, bisexual, and questioning women of Latina heritage to gather, celebrate, and explore their identities and potential as women. Amigas Latinas received capacity building support to complete its current strategic plan, provide board training, strengthen its internal policies and procedures and create and use key marketing tools.

 

Association of Latino Men for Action

$33,000/ 2 years

Association of Latino Men for Action is an almost all volunteer-run agency located in Chicago, whose mission is to bring together gay and bisexual Latino men to nurture a group identity based upon the Latino experience. ALMA ‘s first grant was for capacity building support to recruit and hire a part-time executive director, and their second grant was for capacity building support to lead the Board through a strategic planning process to achieve a strengthened organizational infrastructure and plan and to increase the organization’s financial stability.

 

Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation

$20,000/ 1 year

Bickerdike is committed to the redevelopment of the West Town, Humboldt Park, Logan Square and Hermosa communities for the benefit of and control by the low and moderate-income families. Bikerdike received capacity building support to build the organization’s communications and marketing capacity to develop and create marketing materials for various audiences.

 

Brighton Park Neighborhood Council

$27,500/ 1 year

Brighton Park seeks to create a safe community with a strong infrastructure, improve neighborhood schools, preserve affordable housing, embrace diversity, provide a voice for youth, protect immigrant’s rights, promote gender equity, end violence and fight all forms of oppression. Brighton Park received capacity building support to provide leadership development and staff development opportunities to staff members and to update and develop marketing materials.

 

Centro Comunitario Juan Diego

$20,000/ 1 year

Centro Comunitario seeks to promote leadership and effect social change, while meeting people’s basic human needs. Centro Comunitario received capacity building support to provide training opportunities in resource development and financial management for staff and to redesign the accounting system to achieve a stronger, financial system and diversified base.

 

Centro Romero

$10,000/ 1 year

Centro Romero provides opportunities for those community residents with the fewest options.  Emphasis is on the development of the whole family unit and the creation of community leadership. Centro Romero received capacity building support to provide training and development for the Board of Directors to effectively lead the organization.

 

Centro San Bonifacio

$42,000/ 2 years

Centro San Bonifacio is a community-based organization serving Latino residents on the near North Side of Chicago. Its mission is to promote personal and collective self-development within the immigrant Hispanic community through concrete projects based on real needs related to health, education, solidarity, and human rights. The capacity building grant is to increase and diversify its funding base with a newly hired development assistant and to hire a consultant to conduct a capital campaign feasibility study.

 

Confederación de Federaciones Mexicanas (CONFEMEX)

$13,000/ 1 year

CONFEMEX members aspire to live in a world where the immigrant rights are fully respected and where the Mexican communities in both sides of the border are fully developed in their political, economic, social, educational, and cultural participation and aim to contribute to the progress and complete participation of the Mexican immigrants in a bi-national context. CONFMEX received capacity building support to provide in-depth training for Board members focusing on strategic planning, board roles and responsibilities, and fundraising to strengthen it organizational structure and develop its funding base.

 

Corazon a Corazon

$10,000/ 1 year

Corazon a Corazon serves a community of young Hispanic mothers and their children by providing education opportunities such as ESL, math, and reading skills and after school enrichment programs to help participants succeed in the future. Corazon received capacity building support to develop the volunteer infrastructure and to recruit, train and retain volunteers

 

Corazón Community Services

$20,000/ 2 years

Corazón Community Services seeks to improve the quality of life for families in underserved communities in Cicero, a town in the greater Chicago area, by employing a holistic approach and working with children, youth, and adults in a bilingual/bicultural community-based setting. The capacity building grant is to carry out a strategic planning process, create a fund development plan and provide board training with hired consultants.

 

Interfaith Leadership Project

$25,000/ 2 years

Interfaith Leadership Project is a community-based organization located in Cicero and Berwyn whose mission is to build better communities and strengthen local institutions by fostering relationships, developing leaders, and deepening civic engagement. The capacity building grant is to undergo strategic planning process and provide staff and board training with a hired consultant.

 

International Latino Cultural Center

of Chicago

$20,000/ 1 year

International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago is a Pan-Latino multi-arts organization dedicated to developing, promoting, and increasing awareness of Latino cultures among Latinos and other communities through a wide variety of art forms and education. This grant is to help support a strategic planning process and provide board training.

 

La Casa Norte

$20,000/ 1 year

La Casa Norte is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for homeless and abandoned people, where they will benefit from a comprehensive program of education, guidance and counseling in a community setting. La Casa received capacity building support to develop and implement a human resource plan and a professional development plan.

 

Latino Union of Chicago

$16,500/ 1 year

Latino Union collaborates with low-income immigrant workers to develop the tools necessary to collectively improve social and economic conditions. Latino Union received capacity building support to develop and implement a strategic plan and implementing leadership development efforts for staff to strengthen its internal operations and begin work to diversify its funding base.

 

Latinos Progresando

$50,000/ 2 years

Latinos Progresando is dedicated to serving immigrants in the Chicago area through the highest quality, low-cost direct immigration services, community education and engagement, and advocacy around just immigration policy. Latinos Progresando received support to conduct a financial audit by hiring an auditing firm and a part-time accounting specialist and to strengthen its funding base by hiring a part-time development director.

 

Little Village Community Development Corporation

$32,000/ 2 years

Little Village Community Development Corporation seeks to ensure balanced development and a sustainable future for the community that is respectful to all the stakeholders in the community: community residents, working families, local businesses, faith communities, youth, and seniors. This grant will help to support the completion of a strategic planning process, provide board training and to hire a financial manager to strengthen the existing financial systems.

 

The Miracle Center

$15,750/ 1 year

The Miracle Center mission is to use multi-disciplinary arts instruction to cultivate children and youth to become successful students, committed family members, and responsible citizens.  The Miracle Center received capacity building support to implement a professional development program to retain staff, improve their skill sets, and ultimately produce greater outcomes in the children and youth.

 

Mujeres Latinas en Acción

$25,000/ 1 year

Mujeres Latinas en Acción, a bilingual/bicultural agency, seeks to empower women and their families to become self-reliant and be able to take full advantage of available opportunities, and create new opportunities to improve the quality of their lives. Mujeres Latinas en Acción received support to hire a communications coordinator to develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan.

 

Near Northwest Neighborhood Network

$45,000/ 1 year

Near Northwest Neighborhood Network serves the communities of West Town and Humboldt Park and its mission is to develop the will and the vision to stabilize and revitalize the community, so that the community provides quality to both family life and work. The capacity building grant is to support the development of a communications plan and to strengthen the funding infrastructure by hiring a development assistant. .

 

Northwest Neighborhood Federation

$18,000/ 1 year

NNF’s mission is to improve the quality of life of the residents on Chicago’s Northwest Side. NNF received capacity building support to provide training and mentoring for the Executive Director and staff to better manage the organization and its programs and to develop and implement a fundraising plan that involves the Board and staff.

 

Pilsen Alliance

$25,000/ 1 year

Pilsen Alliance seeks to improve the quality of life and preserve the rich Mexican culture of the Greater Pilsen community by supporting local leadership at the grassroots level on advocacy/organizing campaigns that promote self-determination, accountability, inclusiveness, and social change.  Pilsen Alliance received capacity building support to develop and implement an annual fund development plan to diversify funding sources and strengthen its funding base.

 

Puerto Rican Arts Alliance

$50,000/ 2 years

Puerto Rican Arts Alliance has a mission to preserve Puerto Rican culture by maintaining its traditions, promoting arts, providing educational opportunities in arts programming and cultivating pride in Puerto Rican heritage for future generations. This grant will support completing a resource development plan, hiring a development consultant to implement the plan and provide board training.

 

San Obrero Mission

$40,000/ 2 years

San Obrero Mission provides transitional shelter and supportive services in a caring environment to homeless adult men in the Pilsen community, enabling them to become stable and contributing members of society. The capacity building grant is to support the development of a fundraising plan and to support the implementation of the plan through marketing and board training.

 

Sin Fronteras Law Program

$20,000/ 1 year

Sin Fronteras Law Program provides legal advice and representation, free or at low cost, to low income residents and community groups in the neighborhoods of West Town, Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Hermosa, and Belmont-Cragin. Sin Fronteras Law Program received support to conduct in-depth training for its board and executive director.

 

St. Pius V Parish

$30,000/ 2 years

St. Pius V Parish has long served immigrants in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, and predominantly Latino families through its youth services, adult development, and advocacy. St. Pius V Parish received support to undergo a strategic planning process with a hired consultant and to hire a part-time development director to strengthen their funding base.

 

Teatro Vista…Theater with a View

$12,000/ 1 year

Teatro Vista is firmly committed to sharing and celebrating the riches of Latino culture with all Chicago theater audiences. Teatro received capacity building support to develop and maintain a data base that provides ticketing, fundraising and donor information, to update and maintain accounting systems and to develop and implement a fund development plan to achieve a stronger, streamlined infrastructure.
