Art for Change (AfC) is a non-profit organization based in East Harlem whose mission is to engage individuals in community programs where the arts become catalysts for countering political and economic inequalities, inspiring grassroots action and promoting positive social change. The grant will build the organization's long-term financial stability by supporting the Executive Director in board development and fundraising efforts and will increase the organization’s network of support by paying for workshop and membership fees to organizations that will provide access to free or inexpensive professional development workshops and conferences.

 

Arthur Aviles Typical Theatre www.bronxacademyofartsanddance.org

Arthur Aviles Typical Theatre (AATT) is a South Bronx-based contemporary Modern dance company committed to carving a niche in the Bronx cultural landscape with a repertory of works that explores life on the margins of Latino and gay cultures and to bring these works to local, national and international audiences. The grant will build the organization's long-term financial stability by implementing a fundraising and development plan.

 

Audubon Partnership for Economic Development www.audubonpartnership.org

The Audubon Partnership for Economic Development (APED)'s mission is to increase opportunities for growth and development of disadvantaged residents and small businesses in the Washington Heights and Inwood communities of New York. The grant will build fundraising capacity to increase the organization's unrestricted operating fund balance and diversify its financial resources.

 

Centro de Hospitalidad www.projecthospitality.org

$15,000/1 year

El Centro de Hospitalidad, a storefront center in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Staten Island, New York, was developed in 1997 to provide a setting where newly arrived immigrants can form friendships, receive information and training and make their own contribution to the welfare of the community. Their grant will enable them to secure 501c3 status, develop a plan to create an indigent community health clinic and improve the organization's ability to make use of its newly acquired space by hiring an architect to create a facility plan.

 

Centro Hispano

$25,000/3 years

The mission of El Centro Hispano is to strengthen Hispanic families by providing them with information, referral, and/or counseling about health, housing, employment, translations and immigration matters. The grant will increase the organization's outreach and administrative capacity by planning and implementing an Information Technology upgrade, including the purchase of new office equipment.

 

Esperanza del Barrio www.esperanzadelbarrio.org

Esperanza del Barrio is an emerging immigrant-led membership organization in East Harlem, whose mission is to assist the self-empowerment of Latina immigrants and their families through grassroots organizing, political/legal education and leadership development. Their grant will help them to regularize the organization's administrative functions and support the Executive Director’s fundraising, board development, organizational management, and volunteer development activities.

 

Fundacion Aid for AIDS (AFA) www.aidforaids.org

Created in 1997 by an activist Venezuelan HIV/AIDS counselor from St. Vincent's Hospital, AFA's mission is to improve the quality of life of Latinos living with HIV/AIDS in the five boroughs of New York City, Latin America and the Caribbean. The grant will assist in optimizing the organization's managerial effectiveness and strengthen their internal operations by providing salary support for a full time Executive Director.

 

Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont & Mamaroneck (HRCLM)

$26,800/3 years

The mission of the HRCLM is to assist people in need and promote social, economic, and professional integration between the immigrant and the already established larger community through three major programs: Day Laborer Program, Individual and Family Resource Program, and Self-Development and Work Skills Program. The grant will help to maximize the organization's ability to disseminate information, serve clients and increase marketing potential and organizational growth through a technology upgrade, will support the development of a strategic plan, and will further develop the organization's fundraising strategies.

 

Long Beach Latino Civic Association

$15,000/1 year

The Long Beach Latino Civic Association (LBLCA) was founded in January 1995, and its purpose is to educate and involve Latinos, the fastest growing population in the City of Long Beach, in important areas of common life such as education, health, social system awareness, voter education, and local government issues. The grant will develop the organization's planning capacity by hiring two consultants who will create a 3-year strategic plan and assist with board development.

 

Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (LIHCC) www.lihcc.com

The goal of the LIHCC is to provide the Latino business community, who often has special entrepreneurial issues, with business support, as well as to provide scholarships and mentoring opportunities to Latino youth of Long Island. The grant will support the implementation of a fundraising strategy that includes a comprehensive grass roots survey of the Latino business community on Long Island.

 

Mothers on the Move www.mothersonthemove.org

$7,500/1 year

Mothers on the Move/Madres en Movimiento (MOM) has grown from a single-issue community group to become a catalytic power-based social justice organization that engages low and moderate income people of color, primarily women and youth from the South Bronx. The grant will increase the organization's outreach capacity by hiring consultants to provide translation services, IT support and maintenance of a Spanish-language website.

 

Pregones Theatre www.pregones.org

$50,000/2 years

Founded in 1979, Pregones Theater is an award-winning Bronx-based organization committed to the arts and civic enrichment whose mission is (1) to create and perform contemporary theater rooted in Puerto Rican and Latino artistic expressions, and (2) to present artists from diverse cultures, offering Latinos and other communities an artistic means to participate in society. The grant will increase the organization’s community outreach capacity by supporting the development and implementation of a marketing plan and a publicity plan.

 

Pronto of Long Island www.prontoli.org

$40,000/2 years

Pronto of Long Island’s mission is to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, clothe the needy and provide healing and hope to everyone who walks in their doors. The grant will support the organization’s growth by diversifying the agency's financial base of support, provide strategic planning and leadership development, and develop human resources management.

 

Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre

$40,000/2 years

Founded in 1967, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre’s (PRTT) is to advance bilingual Puerto Rican/Latino dramaturgy, theatrical performance, and professional training as ways to enrich our American theater and national culture. The grant will increase the organization's fund development capacity by supporting the development and implementation of a fundraising plan.

 

SER of Westchester www.serwestchester.org

$15,000/1 year

SER (Service, Education and Resources) of Westchester is a bilingual/bicultural Hispanic, multi-service, not-for-profit, community based organization affiliated with SER-Jobs for Progress National, Inc., and whose constituency is limited English speaking youth, both in school and out of school, as well as recent immigrants of all ages. The grant will help the organization develop financial stability and the capacity to sustain growth by undergoing a strategic planning process.

 

Teatro Círculo

$36,000/2 years

Since 1994, Teatro Círculo has produced award-winning, Spanish-language theatre for Latino audiences in the New York/New Jersey region, as well as producing contemporary works and providing master classes for emerging and professional artists. The grant will maximize the effectiveness of a strategic plan by facilitating board development and recruitment and will increase the organization's marketing and fundraising capacity.

 

Westchester Hispanic Coalition

$97,000/3 years

The Westchester Hispanic Coalition (WHC) is a private not-for-profit human services agency dedicated to the economic and social development of the Latino community by providing opportunities for advancement and leadership strengthening. The grant will increase the organization's fundraising capacity by hiring a Development Director who will work with a fundraising consultant.

 

Workplace Project

$20,000/1 year

The Workplace Project's mission is to end the exploitation of Latino immigrant workers and promote the full political, social and cultural participation of those workers in the communities in which they live. The grant will support the development of a sustainable growth model that increases community outreach by upgrading communications technology and by working with consultants.
