Bay Area Hispano Institute

$80,000/ 2 years

The Bay Area Hispano Institute is dedicated to providing bilingual, multicultural child development education to children ages two to ten years of age, particularly serving low income families of Northern Alameda County, enabling them to improve the quality of life of their children. The capacity building grant focuses on enhancing the fiscal management, governance and leadership capabilities of BAHIA board and staff.

 

California Latino Civil Rights Network

$50,000/ 2 years

The California Civil Rights Network works to promote the active civic participation of Latinos in California. The capacity building grant will strengthen the Rapid Response System, allowing the Network to mobilize community response and target major issues that need statewide attention.

 

Central American Resource Center

$40,000/ 2 years

The Central American Resource Center works to promote community empowerment for the Latino and immigrant population of Northern California by providing and advocating for services and strategies that respond to the needs and rights of the Latino population. The capacity building grant will be used to review and establish new board composition, structure, and membership.

 

Center for Community Advocacy

$50,000/ 2 years

The Center for Community Advocacy is dedicated to improving housing conditions and opportunities for farm workers and other low-income families in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. The capacity building grant focuses on increasing the number of farm worker leaders, forming strategic alliances with a broad array of community institutions, and maximizing enrollment in health insurance programs and in preventive health initiatives.

 

Centro Binacional

para el Desarollo Indígena Oaxaqueño

$80,000/ 2 years

Centro Binacional Para el Desarollo Indígena Oaxaqueño aims to promote economic, social and cultural development of the Oaxacan indigenous communities. Grant funds will be used to hire a part-time fund developer as a staff person to set up a 5-year financial strategic plan.

 

Centro La Familia Advocacy Services

$90,000/ 2 years

Centro La Familia has been providing the Latino community culturally competent social services for 30 years. The purpose of the grant is to undergo a strategic planning process that includes board and staff development focusing on cross-training staff. Funds will be used to hire a project coordinator and subcontract a facilitator for the strategic planning process.

 

Centro Legal de la Raza                                                                        

$115,000/ 3 years

Centro Legal de la Raza aims to provide direct free and low-cost legal services and advocacy to protect and expand the rights of low income and Spanish speaking people.  The grant funds will be used for board and staff development, funds development and technological capacity.

 

ELLAS en Acción

$8,500/ 1 year

ELLAS en Acción is an organization dedicated to political, educational and cultural advancement of Latina lesbians and bisexual women. The grant will be used to hire a consultant to conduct a comprehensive organizational assessement report that would highlight priorities, objectives, and strategies for the organization. The grant will also support the establishment and maintenance of the organization’s website.

 

El Teatro Campesino

$40,000/1 year

The mission of El Teatro Campesino (ETC) is to create a theater that reflects the greater Chicano experience. ETC’s capacity building grant is to hire a fund developer and a fund development consultant to build ETC’s capacity to apply for grants from federal, state and private foundations. Funds would also be used to hire a marketing consultant to train a marketing director, and to reestablish a marketing department for ETC.

 

Familias Unidas

$70,000/ 2 years

Familias Unidas provides mental health, youth development, HIV/AID, and information/referral support services to Spanish speaking immigrants living at or below poverty level in the West County areas. Their capacity building grant is to diversify the funding base and improve agency outreach and marketing to the community. Funds will be used to hire a half time development/public relations manager.

 

Fresno Barrios Unidos

$60,000/ 3 years

Fresno Barrios Unidos is dedicated to rebuilding communities worn down by the daily impact of violence by providing support for at-risk youth. The capacity building grant focuses on building organizational capacity by drafting a strategic plan, developing senior management staff, enhancing current agency partnerships, and diversifying financial support.

 

Hijas de Tonantzin

$5,000/ 1 year

Hijas de Tonantzin is dedicated to improving the health, education, and economic welfare of young Latinas in the Fresno area by implementing a variety of youth development activities, serving approximately 1000 youths per year. The purpose of the planning grant is to conduct a comprehensive organizational assessment in order to outline a capacity building plan highlighting priorities, objectives, and strategies.

 

Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights

$70,000/ 3 years

Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights is dedicated to defending the rights and dignity of immigrants and refugees regardless of their immigration status. Their capacity building grant would be used to hire a consultant to support the 501-C3 process, and assist staff in preparing all the necessary documentation.

 

Jamestown Community Center

$50,000/ 2 years

The Jamestown Community Center is dedicated to mobilizing the resources of families, neighborhood residents, and other community members to help young people realize their full potential as responsible and empowered members of society.  The capacity building grant focuses on increasing resource sharing with other community agencies, increasing youth involvement at all decision-making levels and developing a fund raising plan that results in an expanded and diversified funding base.

 

La Raza Centro Legal, Inc.

$50,000/ 2 years

La Raza Centro Legal, Inc. is dedicated to creating a more just and inclusive society in interest of the Latino, indigenous, immigrant, and low-income communities of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area through advocacy, leadership development, and community building. The capacity building grant focuses on launching the Latino Voices Program, which aims to increase the visibility and strengthen the voice of Latinos throughout California. In addition, a new communications director position will be created to oversee the media relations efforts including the development of a media plan and strategies for advancing Latino priorities.

 

The Latina Center

$20,000/ 2 years

The Latina Center’s mission is to improve the quality of life and health of the Latino community by providing leadership and personal development opportunities for all Latinas. The capacity building grant is to hire a consultant to help develop a 5-year strategic plan that includes input from staff, board, peer leaders and volunteers. The plan would include board development, fund development and marketing.

 

Latino Coalition for a Healthy California

(LCHC)

$50,000/ 2 years

Latino Coalition for a Healthy California engages in policy research, formulation of an annual Latino health policy agenda, monitoring of developments in health policy in an effort to pursue the development and implementation of policy and policy changes that improve Latino health status in California. The capacity building grant aims to assist LCHC realize its vision of a statewide community-driven Latino health policy effort with local, regional and statewide structures.

 

Latino Issues Forum

(Central Valley Office)

$50,000/ 2 years

The Latino Issues Forum has dedicated itself to improving the lives of Latinos by producing high quality research, conducting community education forums, building coalitions, and serving as a resource to media  and hard hitting advocacy. The purpose of this grant is to hire a consultant to work with LIF to conduct a strategic plan for a regional Central Valley office.

 

Latino Commission

on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services

of Sonoma County, Inc.

$10,000/ 1 year

The Latino Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services of Sonoma County, Inc. works to provide culturally relevant substance abuse treatment and supportive services for low-income Latinos in an effort to increase their quality of life and reduce their dependence on alcohol and drugs. The purpose of this grant is to hire a consultant to conduct a comprehensive organizational assessement report that would highlight priorities, objectives, and strategies for the organization.

 

Los Cenzontles Mexican Arts Center

$75,000/ 3 years

Los Cenzontles Mexican Arts Center aims to provide affordable arts education opportunities to Mexican and Mexican American youth and their families within a social/cultural context. The capacity building grant focuses on strengthening the organizational capacity on a variety of levels: board, expansion of staff, strategic planning, and enhancing resource development capabilities.

 

Mission Housing Development Corporation

$100,000/ 2 years

The Mission Housing Development Corporation is dedicated to preserving, improving and creating housing for the Mission District’s Latino and working class residents. The capacity building grant focuses on supporting the transition planning for the eminent departure of the housing development director and to generally strengthen the capacity of the housing department by increasing the number of projects developed that will generate revenue.

 

Movimiento de Arte

y Cultura Latino Americana

(MACLA)

$90,000/ 3 years

MACLA supports Latino artists to create and showcase new work in visual, literary, and performance arts. The capacity building grant focuses on strengthening the organization’s resource development efforts, specifically in developing and implementing a grassroots fundraising campaign.

 

Mujeres Unidas y Activas

$80,000/ 2 years

Mujeres Unidas y Activas is a group of Latina immigrant women that promote the spirit of struggle for immigrant rights, social justice, and a community free from violence. The capacity building grant will be used to implement a strategic plan focusing on organizational structure, member committee training, staff coaching, board development, and infrastructure assessment and documentation of the process.

 

People Organizing to Demand

Environmental and Economic Rights

(PODER)

$75,000/ 3 years

PODER is dedicated to organizing residents of San Francisco Mission District to work on local solutions to environmental and economic problems that threaten the health and livelihoods of the district’s inhabitants, the majority of whom are Latino/a and low-income people of color. The capacity building grant focuses on fostering the development of new leaders by developing an exemplary membership plan and bilingual leadership development curriculum.

 

Proyecto ContraSIDA Por Vida

$10,000/ 1 year

The goal of Proyecto ContraSIDA Por Vida is to provide a safe space, programs, and services that invigorate Latina/o bisexual, lesbian, transgender and gay people in the San Francisco Bay Area. The purpose of the planning grant is to hire an organization development consultant to lead PCPV through a strategic planning process including a staff and board retreat, community meetings, and focus groups of community stakeholders.

 

Queer Latina/o Artists Coalition

$34,000/ 4 years                                         

With their live and online programs the Queer Latina/o Artists Coalition showcases artists whose work explore Queer Latino/a identity issues and reflect the Queer Latino/a experience. The purpose of the grant is to contract a Festival Coordinator and a Publicist to work on the Queer Latina/o Arts Festival.

 

Sacramento Valley Organizing Community

(SVOC)

$90,000/ 2 years

Sacramento Valley Organizing Community aims to create and foster institutional, political, and economic change in the North Central Valley while at the same time developing leadership by involving people in public life who have not participated before. The capacity building grant focuses on the development and expansion of the Organizer Fellowship Program, which will aim to identify, train and develop at least 20 new Latino leaders.

 

Spanish Speaking Citizens’ Foundation

$100,000/ 2 years

The Spanish Speaking Citizen’s Foundation is dedicated to meeting the specific needs of low-income Latino families and individuals in Oakland by providing a number of bilingual programs, such as a Youth Development program and an Employment and Training program. The capacity building grant aims to strengthen the organization’s resource development capacity and diversify its funding base.

 

Teatro Vision de San Jose

$50,000/ 2 years

Teatro Vision de San Jose is a Chicano theater company that is dedicated to celebrating and nurturing the Latino community that inspires Vision. The capacity building grant funds will be used to conduct an assessment of audience development and public relations strategies including community outreach, media relations, and publicity. Funds will also be used to support community and national outreach efforts by their Artistic Director, and to provide seed money for the Teatro Programs Coordinator position.

 

Tulare County Hispanic Commission

On Alcohol and Abuse Services, Inc.

$84,000/ 3 years

The Tulare County Hispanic Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services aims to increase the accessibility of culturally sensitive alcohol and drug abuse services to Hispanics. Grant funds will be used to develop financial infrastructure through enhanced tracking/billing automation and staff capacity.
