for a Suitable Economy

$116,000/ 3 years

Central Coast Alliance United for a Suitable Economy (CAUSE) is dedicated to improving the standard of living of Latino and other low income working families in the Central Coast region of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties by building the organizing and community development capacity of Latino(a) and other communities and labor organizations. Their grant will fund the development of a strategic plan, management and staff training, technology upgrades, and strengthen fundraising systems and infrastructure.

 

Centro Latino de Educación Popular

$15,000/ 1 year

Centro Latino de Educación Popular’s mission is to offer educational opportunities to those without access to other educational resources in order to foster self confidence, open doors to new opportunities, and help participants achieve their goals. Their grant will support the development of a fundraising and marketing plan.

 

East Los Angeles Classic Theatre

$100,000/ 3 years

East Los Angeles Classic Theatre (ECT) is dedicated to providing literacy education and cultural enrichment to Latino students and English learners, as well as teachers and families throughout Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties. Their grant will be used to build the fundraising capacity of the organization through board training, technology upgrades, and the hiring of a Development Director.

 

El Centrito de la Colonia

$15,000/ 1 year

El Centrito de la Colonia is a bilingual, bicultural center in Oxnard that targets youth at risk of low academic achievement to prepare them to meet the future confident in their bicultural heritage, able to utilize education and career opportunities, and ready to be productive members of the community. Their grant will be used to conduct an organizational assessment.

 

Homies Unidos

$60,000/ 3 years      

Homies Unidos is a transnational organization whose mission is to provide youth and communities with positive and productive opportunities that will permit the reduction and prevention of violence, and allow personal growth. Their grant will fund organizational and community assessment.

 

Inquilinos Unidos

$15,000/ 1 year

Inquilinos Unidos’ mission is to empower low-income tentants through community organizing, education and advocacy to fight for safe, decent, and affordable housing in Los Angeles. The grant will support organizational assessment and planning.

 

Instituto de Educación Popular

de Sur California

$137,000/ 3 years    

Instituto de Educación Popular de Sur California (IDEPSCA) seeks to create a more humane and democratic society by responding to the needs and problems of disenfranchised people through leadership development and educational programs based on Popular Education. This grant will be used to strengthen the organization’s infrastructure by hiring an Associate Director, development of an advisory board, and staff training.

 

Media Arts Center San Diego

$138,000/ 3 years

Media Arts Center San Diego (MACSD) was established in 1999 to nurture and support media artists working in film, video, audio, and computer-based multimedia to challenge the historical exclusion of under-represented communities and distorted images of these communities by mainstream media. The grant will support organizational assessment, strategic planning and the hiring of fund development staff.

 

Orange County Congregational

Community Organization

$77,000/ 2 years

Orange County Congregational Community Organization (OCCCO) develops grassroots community leadership by engaging low-income residents in the identification of urgent community problems, analysis of relevant public policy, and participation in positive civic action in order to improve the quality of life in their community. The capacity building grant will support financial knowledge and skills development, membership development, and diversifying revenue base.

Lideres Campesinas is a network of Latina, rural farm worker women which seeks to serve as socio-political-economic change agents to reduce poverty and discrimination among Latina immigrant communities by promoting the recognition of the indivisibility of their human and civil rights. The grant will fund the development and implementation of a succession plan.

 

Salvadoran American Leadership

and Educational Fund

$130,500/ 2 years

SALEF promotes the civic participation and representation of Salvadoran and other Latino immigrant communities in the US, promotes economic development and democracy in El Salvador, as well as advocates for their economic, educational, and political advancement and growth. The grant will fund organizational assessment, strategic planning and the hiring of a Development Director.

 

Statue of Liberty Center

$16,500/ 1 year

Statue of Liberty Center is dedicated to the uplifting of disenfranchised immigrant gardeners and their families with an emphasis on enhancing their economic well-being. The grant will support strategic planning and board and staff development.

 

Watts Century Latino Organization

$100,000/ 2 years

The Watts/Century Latino Organization (WCLO) was formed in 1990 to improve the quality of life for all Watts area residents and to ensure that the special needs of the growing Latino population are addressed. WCLO targets needs ranging from government accountability to locally-based service programs. The grant will fund executive management training, a fund development plan, an organizational operating plan and facility development.
