Academia Cesar Chavez Charter School

$45,000/ 3 years

Academia Cesar Chavez is a K-5 charter school that serves students and families in the St. Paul area by engaging students through a community-based, holistic approach to education by utilizing Latino culture in an environment of ‘familia’ and community. The capacity building grant for strategic planning and board development will enable stable and continued growth with a shared mission and future direction for the school.

 

Casa de Esperanza

$264,000/ 5 years

Casa de Esperanza is committed to mobilizing Latinas and Latino communities to end domestic violence. The grants developed the internal research and evaluation capacity and has allowed Casa to become a leader in culturally-relevant, community-based research to reshape the field of domestic violence and will help to build it’s   marketing capacity by supporting a Marketing Associate to develop and implement a marketing infrastructure to increase sales of tools and products in order to diversify the organization’s funding strategies by increasing unrestricted income.

 

Centro Campesino

$171,000/ 4 years

Centro Campesino seeks to develop leadership and improve the work and community life of migrant agricultural families. The capacity building grants provided nonprofit management skills to board and staff, and developed a fundraising plan to help stabilized growth and will build it’s communications capacity by training for staff, board, and volunteers to develop skills on how to effectively use radio as a communications medium and developing broadcasting skills to design and produce a show.

 

Centro Cultural de Fargo y Moorhead

$191,500/ 6 years  

Centro Cultural seeks to strengthen the Hispanic community’s capacity to address social injustices and to build better lives and stronger communities within the Fargo/Moorhead area. The grants allowed the organization to undergo board and staff development and will help further the organization’s management capacity by supporting and Executive Director to build and manage the organizations operations and programs.

 

Centro Legal, Inc.

$230,000/ 5 years

Centro Legal provides civil legal services to low-income Latinos that face barriers of access to the civil justice system. In addition to legal services and landmark litigation cases, the agency conducts community outreach and education projects to educate the community on their rights as well as changes in law that impact the Latino community. The grants assisted Centro Legal in increasing and diversifying its fundraising base and will help to build the organization’s management capacity by conducting an organizational assessment and developing an integrated client data system.

 

Centro, Inc.

$15,000/ 1 year

Through its mission to empower and eliminate the barriers to self-sufficiency, Centro provides a continuum of social service needs to the growing Latino community in the Twin Cities metro area. The planning grant is for an organizational capacity assessment that will enable Centro to evaluate its infrastructure and strategically plan its funds management, technology and client service needs.

 

El Arco Iris Center for the Arts

$9,280/ 1 year

El Arco Iris focuses on preserving and promoting traditional Afro-Caribbean/Puerto Rican art forms in Minnesota. The grant will build the organization’s management capacity by leading the board through an organizational planning process and help to develop it’s infrastructure to lead it into the future.

 

El Centro Latino Americano

$15,553/ 1 year

El Centro is dedicated to providing services that unite and strengthen the Latino community in Iowa’s Cedar Valley.  The grant will build the organization’s management capacity by leading the board and staff through a strategic planning process and supporting the Executive Director to implement the plan.

 

El Colegio

$10,000/ 1 year

El Colegio is a small charter school that engages high school students to learn through an unconventional and effective approach that is student-driven. Its goal is to increase the high school graduation and college participation rate for Latinos. The planning grant for an organizational capacity assessment will allow El Colegio to evaluate financial, community and programmatic strengths and needs, while foremost involving all stakeholders in the process.

 

HACER

$25,000/ 1 year

The mission of Hispanic Advocacy and Community Empowerment through Research (HACER) is to provide the Minnesota Latino community the ability to create and control information about itself in order to effect institutional decisions and public policy. The capacity building grant is for strategic planning, financial management, and staff recruiting.

 

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Minnesota

$7,900/ 1 year

HCCM fosters and promotes economic prosperity in Minnesota by providing leadership in business and commerce in the Latino/Hispanic community. The grant will help the organization conduct and audit and further develop their financial system.

 

Immigrant Rights Network of Iowa

$50,000/ 1 year

The Immigrant Rights Network facilitates full immigrant participation in decision-making processes, promotes respect for immigrant contributions, and builds inclusive communities in Iowa.  The grant will help build the organization’s management capacity by hiring an executive director and providing board development training.

 

La Escuelita

$123,770/ 5 years

La Escuelita is dedicated to the academic success of Latino youth and creating opportunities for youth development training. The grants provided training and development for board and staff and is focusing efforts to diversity the agency’s fundraising by hiring a Development Coordinator.

 

La Familia Guidance Center, Inc.

$104,000/ 3 years

La Familia Guidance Center aims to provide culturally competent mental health and social services to Chicano and Latino youth and families in the Twin Cities metro area as well as greater Minnesota. The capacity building grant will enhance the agency’s staff development and retention by providing educational support for current staff pursuing degrees, as well as bringing in a new pool of qualified staff.

 

La Oportunidad

$66,000/ 3 years

Working together to promote and strengthen peace within the community, La Oportunidad assists Latinos of all ages to achieve greater capacity, develop practical skills, nurture healthy relationships, and build a stronger community. The grant will build the organization’s technology capacity by improving the current data management systems and hardware to allow for more efficient and accurate service delivery increased productivity, and enhanced organizational sustainability.

 

Latino Economic Development Center

$155,000/ 3 years

LEDC works to transform our community by creating economic opportunity for Latinos in Minnesota. The grant will build the organization’s management capacity by supporting a Rural Development Director and support staff to develop and manage the organization’s work in rural Minnesota.

 

Minnesota Immigrant Freedom Network

$145,000/ 4 years

MIFN empowers and engages immigrants in Minnesota and supports the elimination of discrimination based on immigration status. The grants helped to build the organizations communications capacity by providing support for a Communications Organizer to develop a communications/media strategic plan, website and other materials and will focus on building the organizations management and governance capacity by developing internal infrastructures to ensure a healthy organization, develop and accounting system and lead the bard through a strategic planning process.

 

Mujeres Unidas del Red River Valley

$25,500/1 year

Mujeres Unidas supports Latinas to make positives changes in their community.  The grant will help them build their fund development capacity by developing a fundraising plan and hiring a Development Assistant to implement the plan.

 

Neighborhood Development Alliance

$10,000/1 year

NeDA aims to strengthen the vitality of lower-income neighborhoods within the City of St. Paul, by creating and preserving housing and business opportunities for residents of all income levels. The grant will help to build the organization’s management capacity by leading the Board and key staff through a strategic planning process to review the organization’s mission and goals and to develop a plan that situates the organization to its best advantage to serve the growing Latino population.

 

Resource Center of the Americas

$10,000/ 1 year

The RCA informs, educates and organizes to promote human rights, democratic participation, economic justice and cross-cultural understanding in the context of globalization in the Americas. The grant will help strengthen RCA’s communications capacity by supporting for new and direct communications costs to increase its communications advocacy and work on immigration.

 

Teatro del Pueblo

$180,500/ 6 years

Teatro del Pueblo is a theatre company that seeks to promote cultural pride in the Latino community, develop and support Latino talent, and educate the broader community of cultural diversity in the arts. The capacity building grants focus on fundraising diversification, audience outreach and partnership building and creating an effective management model and business plan to address future needs.

 

The Welcome Center, Inc.

$180,750/ 6 years

The Welcome Center, Inc. is committed to providing services that unite and strengthen an ever-growing Latino community in Austin, a city in southern Minnesota. The grants allowed the organization to undergo a strategic planning process and evaluation that assessed staff development, financial sustainability and program effectiveness and will help to build the organizations fund development capacity by developing a fundraising plan, hiring a Fundraising Assistant to implement the plan and training board and staff on their roles in fundraising and implementing the plan.
