Local Vision

"The Funders' Collaborative model allows national foundations to work with their ear to the ground.  Local issues and problems are tackled locally.  The Funders' Collaborative is national, but at the same time touches local needs; it gets to the pulse of local communities."

-Lillian Cruz
Hartford Foundation for Public Giving

What We Fund

The HIP Funders’ Collaborative for Strong Latino Communities is a regranting initiative that provides capacity-building grants to small-to-medium sized Latino nonprofits.  “Small-to-medium-sized” is defined as any organization with less than $2 million in annual operating budget.  It is important to note that the $2 million cap is set for operating budgets only. Nonprofits can have assets greater than that which are considered exclusive from operating budgets.

Grantee organizations must be public tax exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, although some sites allow for organizations that are fiscally sponsored.  This latitude is determined on a site-by-site basis, so check with the HIP staff person in your site if you have a question.  For sites that allow fiscally sponsored organizations, the fiscal agent itself does not have to meet the leadership or mission criteria for “Latino-led,” but the group that is being sponsored does.

Grantee organizations must be “Latino-led,” which means they must meet at least one criterion under “leadership” and at least one criterion under “mission” below:
