Local Vision

"The Funders' Collaborative model allows national foundations to work with their ear to the ground.  Local issues and problems are tackled locally.  The Funders' Collaborative is national, but at the same time touches local needs; it gets to the pulse of local communities."

What We Fund

The HIP Collaborative is active in the following sites:

Argentina, Arizona, Chicago, Colorado, Connecticut, Dominican Republic, Massachusetts/Rhode Island, Mexico, New Mexico, New York/New Jersey, North Carolina, Northern California/Central Valley, Philadelphia, Puerto Rico, Southern California, Southeast Wisconsin, the Upper Midwest, and Washington, D.C.

The HIP Collaborative is a regranting initiative that provides capacity-building grants to small-to-medium sized  nonprofits that are Latino-led and Latino-serving.

  • "Capacity building" includes activities that contribute to the development and growth of organizational systems and infrastructure.

  • “Small-to-medium-sized” is defined as any organization with less than $2 million in annual operating budget.  It is important to note that the $2 million cap is set for operating budgets only. Nonprofits can have assets greater than that which are considered exclusive from operating budgets.
  • "Nonprofit" is defined as a public tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Some sites allow for organizations that are fiscally sponsored.
  • Fiscal Sponsors: This latitude is determined on a site-by-site basis, so check with the HIP staff person in your site if you have a question.  (For sites that allow fiscally sponsored organizations, the fiscal agent itself does not have to meet the leadership or mission criteria for “Latino-led,” but the group that is being sponsored does.)
  • “Latino-led” and "Latino-serving" is defined as meeting at least one criterion under “Leadership” and at least one criterion under “Mission” below:

A majority of the people directly served by the agency are Latino.
